Super hydrophobic coating HIREC®

super hydrophobic coating that dramatically changes the concept of conventional Super hydrophobic-repellent materials

Water droplets that resemble spheres on a HIREC-coated surface
Comparison of snow accretion between HIREC coated surface and uncoated surface
Photos provided by partner companies

Initial contact angle exceeds 150°
Extremely water repellency

The photo shows water droplets dripped onto a HIREC painted surface.
Due to the super water repellency of the coating surface, water droplets become almost spherical, so a water film is hardly formed.

Maintains long-term water repellency
Self-cleaning function

The self-cleaning function using photocatalyst ensures that a clean coating surface is always exposed.
This ensures that water repellency remains for a long period of time.
*HIREC450 and HIREC1450NF are primarily for indoor use and do not have a self-cleaning function.

Also effective in reducing snow and ice buildup

The photo shows an example of snow accumulation reduction using HIREC coating. On the left side, a large amount of snow has accumulated on the uncoated HIREC surface, but on the right side, the HIREC coated surface, the snow falls off before it can pile up too high.

Features of HIREC

Overwhelming water repellency

On a HIREC coated surface, water droplets maintain an almost spherical shape, demonstrating super water repellency that prevent them from remaining in place.

Self-cleaning function using photocatalyst

HIREC-R, HIREC1100, and HIREC300-W have a self-cleaning function due to the photocatalytic effect.

Dust and dirt present in the air will adhere to Super hydrophobic and generally cause water repellency to gradually decrease. In addition, the ultraviolet rays contained in sunlight will cause the coating surface to deteriorate, which will also cause water repellency to decrease.

On the other hand, the HIREC series contains photocatalytic materials that, even if dirt adheres to the surface, exhibit a self-cleaning function when exposed to sunlight, revealing a new, water repellency repellent surface.

This function is expected to enable the paint to maintain its super water repellency water repellency for approximately three years, which is a long period for a super water-repellent paint *.

Change in contact angle during outdoor exposure

The self-cleaning effect of HIREC has also been made clear in comparative tests with other companies' products.

* This is the period during which performance can be expected to be maintained when the recommended film thickness (approximately 30 μm) is applied. The period during which the super water repellency is maintained varies depending on the usage environment, etc., so we cannot guarantee the period during which performance is maintained.

Also effective in preventing snow accumulation

By applying HIREC in advance, you can prevent snow, ice, and icicles from accumulating, reducing damage caused by falling snow and ice.

Main usage scenarios

(water landing prevention)
(Prevention of snow accretion)
(Measures against falling snow and ice)
(ensuring insulation)

Prevention of water film formation

Prevents radio wave attenuation caused by water films on antennas and radomes during rain and snowfall

  • Communications (5G, IoT, microwave/mm wave, etc.)
  • Radar (X-band, C-band, etc.)
  • Broadcast (satellite TV, etc.)

Snow and ice prevention

Prevent accidents caused by falling snow and ice

Prevention of droplet adhesion

  • Anemometer
  • Other precision equipment

Ensuring insulation

It is applied to insulators, etc. to prevent electrical conductivity caused by adhesion of seawater and sea salt particles.

oil water separation

Repels water but not oil
