Eliminates the time-consuming and costly problem of exchanging silica gel for moisture and condensation countermeasures
Resolved with technology that reduces the failure rate and maintenance cost of NTT's infrastructure equipment!!

Company Profile

  • Industry: Engineering company I
  • Department: Design Department

background

A power receiving and transforming equipment installed at a mega solar power plant in a mountainous area experienced a malfunction due to condensation. Condensation, caused by a natural phenomenon, occurred in equipment with a waterproof structure designed to protect against rain and snow, which was unexpected for the engineers. To solve this problem, Company I used silica gel.

Problems and challenges

Silica gel needs to be replaced every three months, which is time-consuming and costly.

We use silica gel to prevent condensation, but its dehumidifying effect wears off after about three months, requiring frequent replacement. This is not only time-consuming but also costly. We have frequently received requests from customers to improve this situation.

Heaters and dehumidifiers present problems in terms of installation space and cost.

Mr. S from the design department continued to consider improvement measures. Initially, the proposed alternatives were the introduction of heaters and dehumidifiers. However, these presented numerous problems that needed to be addressed, such as installation space and securing a power source. Furthermore, they were not deemed appropriate as they would likely result in further cost increases.
"Silica gel itself is an inexpensive material. Even including labor costs for the work, most alternatives end up costing more than silica gel. That being said, having people go to the site every three months to do the work is still inefficient..." (Mr. S)
Mr. S was at his wit's end, unable to find a cheaper and more effective way to prevent condensation than silica gel.

Key points of problems and challenges

Dehumidification using silica gel requires replacement every three months, which is time-consuming and costly.

Introducing heaters and dehumidifiers presents challenges in terms of installation space, power supply, and cost.
