KT (KTaO3) crystals

Processing example of KT crystal

Example of KT crystal processing (plate processing)

Overview

KT (KTaO 3) crystal is a transparent oxide crystal consisting of potassium (K), tantalum (Ta), and oxygen (O). It has a cubic crystal structure and is optically transparent in the range of 365 nm to 4000 nm. It is a transparent crystal with no anisotropy.
It is a high refractive index optical crystal with a refractive index of 2.2 or more in the visible region, and is stable against heat and water.

feature

  • Chemically stable transparent oxide crystal
  • Oxide crystal transparent from around 365 nm to 4000 nm with no birefringence
  • High refractive index (n d =2.24257)

application

  • As a lens material that takes advantage of its high refractive index and transparency
  • As a SIL material for next-generation DVDs (reference)
  • As an optical component material for lasers (e.g. Er:YAG) that utilizes high transparency and high optical damage threshold
  • As a NAIL (Numerical Aperture Increasing Lens) for microscopes
